Mebane

Mebane, straddling the line between Alamance and Orange counties, North Carolina, has a history that dates back to the late 19th century. The town was named after General Alexander Mebane, a Revolutionary War hero and early U.S. congressman. Mebane's development was spurred by the arrival of the North Carolina Railroad in the 1850s, which made it a key stop for both passengers and freight in the region. The town was incorporated in 1881 as Mebanesville, later shortened to Mebane in 1883.
